Writing to create a fulfilling life.
Creative: derived from the Latin creāre meaning to bring into being.
I have spent my whole life writing in some way, whether it’s journaling, writing academic papers, writing poems, making up story snippets or writing emails in my day job. Writing helps me understand myself, deal with past traumas and the day-to-day realities of living with a chronic illness.
Writing reminds me that I have a vision for my life to live well in this chaotic and often terrifying world. That's what this space is about: not writing and creativity for its own sake, but writing to create a life worth living, to leave a legacy. I hope you will join me and discover through writing what a fulfilling life looks like for you.
Here is the vision I wrote, some of it covers basic needs, some of it covers my aspirations:
I really would like a beautiful, big house with plenty of space, enough money to maintain it, for a cleaner and a gardener.
With a beautiful garden I can spend time in, lovely cottage flowers and wildflowers and lots of birds.
I would sit and write, draw and take photos, read and generally be creative living a slower lifestyle.
Each year there would be a huge family Christmas with my daughter’s families when they have them, I would have a dog and a cat and I would have good friends close by.
I would spend my days outside when I can, with a garden reading library. I would wander into the local pretty town to the coffee shops and bookshops.
I would say hello to all the people I meet and they would chat to me about local goings on. I would go to art classes, photography classes, writing classes and local museums and galleries.
I would do tai chi outside with a weekly group. I would walk in nature and sit by the lake or river reading, writing and drawing.
My home would be my sanctuary and I would fill it full of whimsy.
I would get up with the birds and have slow mornings. I would spend the evenings watching the sunset next to a fire.
I am okay right now but a life like that would be bliss.
